Blue Berry Cobbler and Camping

Today was a pretty good day as far as work days go. I had a slimfast for breakfast for 4pts because I woke up suuuuuper late. I didn't even drink it until I got into work at 9.

Work was a little on the lonely side because I was the only one in the center for most of the day. One of our clients brought goat milk for us so I got a 1/2 gallon of freshly pasteurized goat's milk to try! It was really exciting- and delicious. I only tried a little because I guarantee- this is not fat free!! But it's an experience so whatever. I'm having some for breakfast tomorrow! Also- it was freezing in the center all morning and I couldn't get the air to shut off. I resorted to holding the hot lava lamp in my lap to keep warm.
Fresh goat milk from our sweet clients!

For lunch, I had PB&J that Matt packed for me. I could taste the extra love he put in :). 4pts- it was on WW bread (1pt), with 1 Tbsp pb (2pts), and 1 Tbsp plum jam (1pt).

This was able to hold me over until our awesome dinner and camping planning session. Matt grilled Bratts and I made mac n cheese (I know, I'm gourmet like that). The bratt was 9pts (ouch) and the mac-n-cheese 5pts. I also made blue berry cobbler (healthified a little) and had 1 1/2 servings 5pts.
Matt and my little bratts

Jamie Cobbler! I told Jamie that this reminded me of her. I made 1/2 of a small recipe so its tiny.

We still haven't reached a verdict on 4th of July camping. Its hard to pick here to camp when its your first time camping in a new state. In AR and TN, we'd be fine and know exactly where to go, here its a little more difficult to pick. Let me know if you've ever been camping in VA and have suggestions!!!! We need to reserve a spot by tomorrow pretty much. I'd like to fish if at all possible!!!

I was in the paper!

This weekend was a lot of fun. Much of it was consumed with Brad's birthday celebrations- fireworks and tubing. Good times.

Monday, I was in the paper for LearningRx. I wish I would have known they were doing interviews that day because I would have brushed my hair instead of wearing my sloppy/pokey bun!! Oh well, what can you do?

Today for breakfast I had 2 m&m cookie sandwiches. In my defense, I was having the worst cramps in the whole world. I thought I was dying. 10pts ugh.

Lunch was Chick-fil-A 9pts for the kids meal.

And for dinner I had a baked potato with light butter and cheese 5pts and some mac n cheese 4pts.

These Cookies Are the Devil!!

Today was pretty chill. I had my traditional english muffin and laughing cow cheese for breakfast for 2pts.

It seemed like everything I tried to do at work went wrong- printer jam, fax down, copier jam, computer crash, ahhh! It was driving me insane! I had a smart ones entree for 4pts for lunch.

We had a crazy wind storm today that knocked down a couple of trees and took out our power for a while. I napped until the power came back on. When I woke up, I ate 2 1/2 cookies. These things are going to be the death of me! 7pts!!! Ahhh!

For dinner, we ate the chili I made Monday night and hot dogs. I had 2/3 cup of chili and a few tortilla chips 3pts and a hot dog 7pts.

Crazy Points Day

So I'm not even going to go over all the crap I ate Wed. I think it'll suffice to say at least 20 of my 27 remaining weekly points are gone.

Matt and I had a working lunch at Baja editing his paper- so I had chips and queso, then we went out and grabbed a few beers with some friends in the afternoon to catch up.

Matt's home!

Tuesday went by pretty quickly since Matt got back that day! It was so nice to have him back, although I'm glad that he got to go home and visit his family for a while. I was somewhat the opposite of healthy that day. I had a cookie and milk for breakfast 4pts.

For lunch, I was at work and had ravioli 5pts.

I had two more cookies for a snack after work for 6pts. I waited and had a pretty late dinner with Matt from Wendy's because we stopped on the way home from the airport. It was 15pts for a chicken sandwich and fries.

Matt and I spent the rest of the night just catching up and playing with Bear. It was so nice.

Shining in a Distant Field

I said I'd start blogging food again today! And it is 10:27 pm and I have 1 hour and 33 minutes until I have failed you (again). But unlike my last two weeks, I'm not letting that happen this time!

I woke up a little late this morning- I haven't been keeping track of time since Matt has been gone aside from noting whether it is light or dark outside. I had PB&J for lunch- 2pts for the pb, 1 for the jelly, and 3 for the bread totaling 6pts. The bread is a splurge for me- its oat nut and AMAZING.

After lunch, I went to the pool to get some reading done. I took my current guilty pleasure- The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Matt's aerogel paper. Some kids ended up soaking both and I went home early, irritated, and with a sun burnt nose. I had some triscuits and laughing cow cheese for 3pts while resting and icing my ankle. The swellings down and I could put weight on it today. Hooray!

And about at that time, I got some bad news. So my grandma (Nabors) had a major stroke about a week ago (actually 3 major strokes) and has been hanging on mostly. She had to have surgery today which for older people is pretty risky- as in prepare for the worst hope for the best risky. Matt has been in Little Rock for a wedding and drove in to Memphis to kiss her goodbye for me. My family is doing well which is awesome, and there is a time for everything and its coming time for grandma to go (even if it isn't today, its not far down the line. She's in her 80's), but its still hard to see her go. My grandma is not your typical grandma. She is the toughest person in the world, and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone more interesting.
This memory brightens o'er the past; as when the sun, concealed; behind some cloud that near us hangs; shines on a distant field. -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
She was always the life of the party. She got married when she was 16 (when my grandad (in the navy) sent her the ring in the mail asking- she said to her dad "guess what" and he said "Did that damned piece of metal come?" She loves telling that story), she welded boats in WWII (Rosie the Riveter style), she drinks coffee and like it's water, she reads the bible (but told me when I was 11 that it was the dirtiest book in the entire world- and showed me passages where everyone was "a' sinnin'"), said that having sex before marriage would make you go to hell (but if you weren't making your man want it all the time you were doing something wrong), always said "You have to suffer to be beautiful", taught me how to fish...and how to pee down your pants leg without getting any on you so that you don't have to go inside while gardening, when I was little and would catch fish the size of bait- she'd cook them up anyway and act like I'd caught a whale, she has the most beautiful family prayer, she always painted my nails and let me wear lipstick, every time I leave she says "Be good, but not too good", she loved my dad so much, she loved all her family so much, and there are so many other things I will miss about her when she goes. She is a great grandma and I love her so much. I'll be telling stories about that woman until I die. (Did I mention I took my first shot of jagger with her?)

Anyway- I just got news that she made it through surgery, but hasn't woken up. She's still in the ICU, but its the best that can be expected. We are hoping that she wakes up so say a prayer for her at least that her pain is eased and that she can rest and have some peace.

I went to my weight watchers meeting and am down -.2 pounds from 2 weeks ago. I know that doesn't seem like a lot, but I think I was up 4 from my weight the previous week since I didn't go to the meeting I weighed at home. So that's kind of like losing 4.2 lbs!! Anyway, its alright. I have 9.8 to go for the challenge by the 20th of July- still plenty of time. I also bought a sz 10 dress this week! :)

For dinner I had a smart ones 4pts, and then got busy in the kitchen. I made chili and chocolate chip cookie poufs. I made them w/ splenda and light brown sugar so they came out puffy and not like normal chocolate chip cookies. They are 3pts each and I had 2 6pts with non-fat milk 2pts. I liked the spoon for another 2pts.

Also- since I'm in the 160s, I only get 23pts now instead of 24. Goodbye food :(

Lucy- you got some splainin' to do

So, I do realize that my last post ended something like "I am back, for real, game on" blah blah blah. And that was nearly a week ago- oops.

I do have a few excuses even if they are lame. I missed my WW meeting last week because Matt and I went to Mas on a celebration date, then Matt went out of town and we had to get ready for that, then- I sprained my ankle. I am still hoping that it is just a strain, but that hope is fading as its been 3 days since it happened, I've been RICE-ing it, and it still hurts like the devil. I tried walking on it last night and it buckled. I am crutches bound until I see if it decides to heal itself or if I hobble to a doctor.

I'm going to the WW meeting tomorrow- even if I go on crutches. Matt gets back in town on Tuesday so I'm really excited about that- and I swear that I will start blogging food again tomorrow.

Also- I gave the blog a make-over. What do you think??

Hope to see less of each other next time!

Week Twenty-Something: Day umm??

Ode to My Vices

Hello! Is anyone out there still following me??! It feels like I've been gone forever! Busy with the new job, busy with making new friends, busy with school, busy busy busy...and my health-train has been derailed.

For the past week or so, I have been over indulging in some of my vices...oh, and do I have quite a few vices. The worst of which- crappy television and booze. I shamelessly watch shows such as Grey's Anatomy, Hannah Montana, and Cougar Town. I just can't help myself. I love them all. And if wasting time in front of the TV instead of getting my butt in gear and doing my running isn't bad enough...I've been topping it off with a double shot of tequila and a beer to chase it down. Its just a simply fact- I love me some booze. I love floating down a river drinking beer, I love drinking sangria on a patio eating tapas for hours, I love holding my nose and shooting cheap tequila with old friends, I love drinking and playing football...as a matter of fact, there are very few things that couldn't be helped with a glass of wine (or two).

Honestly, if your parents ever told you drinking wasn't worth it or that it isn't fun- they were wrong. Its awesome.

And then there's the flip side...on the conservative end (wine and light beer), its 100 calories per drink- multiply that by a couple per night and (ahem, a conservative) 5 nights per week, and you start to realize that some love affairs are simply not sustainable. Not to mention, the one night that you're not thinking and you accidentally have more than a few- you wake up seeing double, feeling like your head is going to explode, and your hair looking like it already did...not conducive to 7 am exercise to say the least.

Compound rolling home around midnight with sleepily waking up to crappy television shows (my programs, I say to matt) available on hulu 24/7, and Houston, we have a problem.

So that leaves me- back at practicing moderation and not acting like a hooligan 7 days a week. Shenanigans are now limited to 1 day a week and special occasions, and do you want to know why?

I have (to steal from South Park) an accountabilibuddy. Goal: 10 lbs before July 24.  Why July 24? I'm in my friend's wedding...and then my sister's wedding a week later. I'm going to go hard or go home, so game face is on. No, this doesn't mean I'm not drinking until the 24th, I am still in grad school, but it does mean I can't do trivia Tuesday, Kareoke Wed, Office Party and Flip Cup League Thursday, Fridays after 5 Friday, and Tubing down the James with my cooler on Saturday...yes, that is pretty much how last week went.

So, needless to say, I am back. My celebration date (for getting under 170) with Matt was great. We went to Mas Tapas and had a great time sitting on el patio. It was great weather and romantic. He's a charmer. I'll write later about my food today, and maybe have some steel resolve instead of wondering who's going to trivia tonight!

Week 20: The End

I had a good weekend in some ways and bad weekend in others. I spent a lot of time with friends and co-workers, got some work done on my thesis, grilled out a lot, got some bad news about friends and family health wise, and am missing the fam a lot. Good and bad.

I didn't photo-op everything, but Friday was a little outside my pts and Saturday was under. Today was way under. I'm stuffed from dinner w/ Matt, but should probably eat something else since I've only had 18pts.

Breakfast was a breakfast sandwich 4pts. I missed the photo of lunch today, but it was smart ones ravioli 5pts. Matt and I went to the gym- I got +8 activity points. I did the C25K W6D3 run 25 minutes. I went about 2.3 miles in 25. I then speed walked for another 15 on an incline to get myself to the 3.1 miles that's a 5k since today was Walk It Day for weight watchers and they were trying to get as many members as possible to walk a 5k. I just ran 2/3 of it. :)

For dinner, Matt grilled shrimp and I threw ~6-7 into my smart ones fettuchini for 5pts. I had a roll 2pts and a few fries (comfort food- today was a little rough) 2pts.

I may start posting more irregularly. I am working on my thesis and a little stressed out about finishing everything. I am ready to close the engineering grad school chapter in my life and am anxious to finish.

Week 20: Thursday

I groggily woke up Thursday morning even though we had gotten to bed by midnight. I got dressed for work, ate breakfast and said my goodbyes to Jes. I will miss that kid- but I'll see her soon enough. I had (guess what) laughing cow cheese on an english muffin 2pts.

I worked all day. The only exciting thing that happened was the power flickering on and off in the afternoon due to a crazy- and brief- summer thunderstorm. I had rice and beans for lunch 6pts

I went home around 5 and finished watching Gran Tourino with Matt. I had never seen it before, but it was really good. Super sad though. I had some cheese while watching 3pts. Also, when I came home, our house was so clean!! Jes spent some time cleaning it- AND FIXED OUR VACCUM! "fixed"- emptied the trap that we didn't know existed. :) Thanks, Jes!

After the movie, we went for a long walk with Bear for +1 activity pt. It was so sad, we walked past Jamie and Chris's apt and Bear kept trying to go over to it!! For dinner, we had tortellini for 16pts!! And that's with no sauce and less than 1/2 Tbsp light butter which is 0pts!! Wow- can't have that again.

We started rereading Harry Potter together later at night and had a really good time. I like reading books aloud with Matt. I had some ice cream while reading 5pts. Man, that tortellini sure killed my day. I fell asleep while Matt was reading to me. :) Good night.

Week 20: Early Wednesday

So Tuesday night at about 11:30, I was already in bed. Hives, remember? Well, the phone rings. I groggily answer it and get news that my bff, Jes, has decided to drive through the night from NY and will be at my apt at 6 am the next morning. I knew she was coming, but I thought they'd get there around 4pm.

Thoughts: yay! I get to see her longer. Crap- I have 4 loads of laundry on the guest bed I need to do. I need to clean the house now...and zzzzzzzz.

I got up at 5:30 and gave her a call. She and Johnny had to pull over and sleep for a while and wouldn't be getting in until 8:30 or 9. whew- back to bed.

8 am- I got up and set in on the laundry. They got to the house before I had finished cleaning, but at least their bed was nice. They napped while I finished up.

I had an english muffin with laughing cow cheese for 2pts for breakfast.

For lunch, Jes and Johnny were still sleeping and I had smart ones Ravioli 4pts.

They woke up and we spent some time at the apartment playing with the pups until Matt got off work. We went to the dt mall and walked around, got some drinks, and went to the dumpling shop for dinner. 9pts.
Matt and I eating our dumplings

Chalk Artwork on a wall at the DT mall. Amazing

After that, we went to boylan for shuffle board and drinks- I had some fries too so I'm guessing 25pts for all the fun. Oof.

Week 20: Bummer Tuesday

Tuesday, I had to work all day- which honestly wasn't that bad. I always enjoy working. I had an english muffin 1pt and laughing cow cheese 1pt for breakfast on the way to work (surprise surprise).

I had a smart ones 4pts for lunch, but my boss's wife had made this amazing toffee concoction which is a dieter's dream nightmare. Probably 5pts- butter, sugar, pretzels, toffee, chocolate, hell heaven- obviously it was throwing me off my resolve.

After that, I went to my weight watchers meeting (to make up the memorial day one). I hate missing Monday meetings because I love my leader and don't really want to get to know other people...yes, I could try harder, but I already give all the people in my group the benefit of the doubt when they monopolize the meeting time and a lot of days...I'm not a very giving person. So, I don't talk much when I go to other times....I also don't get a lot out of it..probably not a coincidence, but I am set in my ways. Monday is my meeting and Kathy is my leader. The End.

Having to go to a Tuesday meeting wasn't the worst of it- I was only down -.4 lbs. I was expecting more. I was frustrated. On top of that...I hit the over 25lbs lost and was there for my 16th week- both things WW recognizes and celebrates. I was pouting because I didn't want to celebrate with people I didn't know. So I pouted all the way home after the meeting and got over my 2 year old hissy fit and went to Raising Cane's for dinner- ok so maybe I wasn't entirely recovered, but by the time I left RC's, I was. I ate chicken and fries 15pts.

When I got home, the day was not over..no, far from it. I spent the next FOUR HOURS arguing with insurance....again! uhg. The unending battle. I got so stressed trying to keep it under control that I broke out in hives. :( It was well after 10:30 when I got off the phone and went straight to bed because I was mentally incapacitated after that and my forehead looked like a toad from the hives. Blah.

Week 20: Memorial Day (Monday)

Monday was another good day. We got up and had breakfast- I had an english muffin with laughing cow cheese 2pts, ran a few errands and hit the gym again.

And BOY did I hit the gym..
Me after my workout..literally dripping sweat. Love it

I did the elliptical for 40 minutes between 5 and 8 resistance above 5mph the whole time +3 activity pts and then lifted weights again and did an ab routine +2 activity pts

For lunch, I had a smart ones entree 4pts and some toast with laughing cow cheese (yes, I am addicted) 2pts.

Unfortunately, around that time I realized that since it was memorial day and WW would be closed during my normal meeting time. I was super bummed. We ended up going to a friend's house for a cookout. I had a 1/2 a burger 96% ff for 4pts, Some chips 6pts, and alotta beer 12pts?? I know that's an overestimate, but better safe than fat!
Look at my summa' time shoes!
