Shining in a Distant Field

I said I'd start blogging food again today! And it is 10:27 pm and I have 1 hour and 33 minutes until I have failed you (again). But unlike my last two weeks, I'm not letting that happen this time!

I woke up a little late this morning- I haven't been keeping track of time since Matt has been gone aside from noting whether it is light or dark outside. I had PB&J for lunch- 2pts for the pb, 1 for the jelly, and 3 for the bread totaling 6pts. The bread is a splurge for me- its oat nut and AMAZING.

After lunch, I went to the pool to get some reading done. I took my current guilty pleasure- The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Matt's aerogel paper. Some kids ended up soaking both and I went home early, irritated, and with a sun burnt nose. I had some triscuits and laughing cow cheese for 3pts while resting and icing my ankle. The swellings down and I could put weight on it today. Hooray!

And about at that time, I got some bad news. So my grandma (Nabors) had a major stroke about a week ago (actually 3 major strokes) and has been hanging on mostly. She had to have surgery today which for older people is pretty risky- as in prepare for the worst hope for the best risky. Matt has been in Little Rock for a wedding and drove in to Memphis to kiss her goodbye for me. My family is doing well which is awesome, and there is a time for everything and its coming time for grandma to go (even if it isn't today, its not far down the line. She's in her 80's), but its still hard to see her go. My grandma is not your typical grandma. She is the toughest person in the world, and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone more interesting.
This memory brightens o'er the past; as when the sun, concealed; behind some cloud that near us hangs; shines on a distant field. -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
She was always the life of the party. She got married when she was 16 (when my grandad (in the navy) sent her the ring in the mail asking- she said to her dad "guess what" and he said "Did that damned piece of metal come?" She loves telling that story), she welded boats in WWII (Rosie the Riveter style), she drinks coffee and like it's water, she reads the bible (but told me when I was 11 that it was the dirtiest book in the entire world- and showed me passages where everyone was "a' sinnin'"), said that having sex before marriage would make you go to hell (but if you weren't making your man want it all the time you were doing something wrong), always said "You have to suffer to be beautiful", taught me how to fish...and how to pee down your pants leg without getting any on you so that you don't have to go inside while gardening, when I was little and would catch fish the size of bait- she'd cook them up anyway and act like I'd caught a whale, she has the most beautiful family prayer, she always painted my nails and let me wear lipstick, every time I leave she says "Be good, but not too good", she loved my dad so much, she loved all her family so much, and there are so many other things I will miss about her when she goes. She is a great grandma and I love her so much. I'll be telling stories about that woman until I die. (Did I mention I took my first shot of jagger with her?)

Anyway- I just got news that she made it through surgery, but hasn't woken up. She's still in the ICU, but its the best that can be expected. We are hoping that she wakes up so say a prayer for her at least that her pain is eased and that she can rest and have some peace.

I went to my weight watchers meeting and am down -.2 pounds from 2 weeks ago. I know that doesn't seem like a lot, but I think I was up 4 from my weight the previous week since I didn't go to the meeting I weighed at home. So that's kind of like losing 4.2 lbs!! Anyway, its alright. I have 9.8 to go for the challenge by the 20th of July- still plenty of time. I also bought a sz 10 dress this week! :)

For dinner I had a smart ones 4pts, and then got busy in the kitchen. I made chili and chocolate chip cookie poufs. I made them w/ splenda and light brown sugar so they came out puffy and not like normal chocolate chip cookies. They are 3pts each and I had 2 6pts with non-fat milk 2pts. I liked the spoon for another 2pts.

Also- since I'm in the 160s, I only get 23pts now instead of 24. Goodbye food :(

  2. Thanks, "NP." It took me a minute to figure out who you and "J" were. :) It sounded so covert.

Want to get together sometime for wine and outings? I've lost all (ahem Jamie and Cait) my girlfriends in c-ville.
