Day 21: 1/31/2010

Last day of January and ending my 3rd week on weight watchers!!

I woke up at 7:45 and shoveled snow for an hr (+2 activity pts). Bear ran around with me outside for a while and enjoyed the snow. He's my little snow angel.

Then came in and spent some time warming up with Allee and Matt and had a few pretzels for 1pt. We finally decided it was time to brave the snow- anything for a Bodo's bagel. We went to Bodos and I had ham, egg, and American cheese on a whole wheat bagel. Delish as always. 14pts.

After lunch, we went grocery shopping and then came home. Allee left around that point- can't wait to see her again, and Matt and I started cleaning the house. Its now spik and span. 

I took a nap for a little bit which was so nice and then did some laundry and made the chicken tortilla soup recipe I got from Denise, Matt's mom. I grabbed a 100 calorie snack pack to tide me over to dinner since we had an early lunch for 2pts.


We had Miss Hammy, Jamie, and Chris over for dinner. I had 2 cups chicken tortilla soup 4pts, 1/2 a taco (1/2 ff tortilla .5pts, 1 Tbsp cheese .5pts, 2 Tbsp 90% lean beef with taco seasoning 2pts) for 3pts, 3 Tbsp. Jamie and Chris's home-made guacamole 1pt, and 18 Tortilla chips for 2pts. After dinner, I had a diet sunkist for 0pts to satisfy the sweets craving.

I was really glad to see Jamie and Chris and had a great weekend with Alleebo. She keeps me on my toes. 3rd WW meeting tomorrow- wish me luck and weight-loss!!

Day 20: 1/30/2010 (I HATE SNOW)

I HATE SNOW! It snowed through the night on Friday. Did I mention I hate snow?? Last time it snowed in Charlottesville, my Tarus got totaled by an uninsured driver (RIP). So when I woke up to texts from friends about the snow- I was not a happy camper.

1st thing I did was start to clear off the pathway, even though snow was still coming down like mad and it was an unbeatable battle, I was still determined to do the little I could to keep snow as far away from my life as possible, so I cleared a path to our cars on the faint hope it would stop enough for us to get out of the house. No such luck. Still I think I earned a +1 activity point for the effort. It took forever!

Allee, Matt and I walked ~ 1.2 miles to the chili's near the house, but what should have take 28 minutes took about 50 walking in 6+ inches of snow and 17 degree weather at the time. It was something to do though, and I'm glad we went, although my legs are still a little sore. +2 more activity points!

At Chili's, I really really wanted chipotle chicken crispers but resisted the urge and got this awesome special off of their guiltless items- bottomless soup and salad w/ chips and salsa for 7.99. Check it out- its not just a lunch special. I had chicken and green chile soup for 3pts (from the rice and chicken) and their house salad for 2pts from the corn and ff honey mustard. (I did not eat the croutons that come with the salad. I had 4pts of chicken enchilada soup for my refill- it was a lot better than the green chile, but more points for less soup- you win some, you lose some. I also had ~1/3 a plate of their chips and salsa for 4pts and a reallllllly small peice of Matt's chicken- around the size of my thumb for 4pts (I think it's more like 2, but I wanted to over approximate.)

Tiny peice from Matt's chicken. I drank diet coke with the meal for 0pts. So fun and not bad for chili's most of their stuff is 15 pts and up without a side or chips or drink- whoa. I felt like it was a minor victory to be full at a restaurant as nutritionally crappy as chili's for less than my entire day's points. It was 17pts worth of awesome. We stayed at chili's forever to avoid the walk home. We finally decided to catch the buses for the way back. Unfortunately they weren't dropping at the stop closest to our apt because of the snow, but we were able to catch a ride most of the way back on our warm charlottesville UTS and CTS buses. 

And we finally made it home. We watched the hangover while reading homework and hanging out. Jamie, Chris and Miss Hammy swung by for a visit and Bear was glad to see his sister for a while. After a while, we watched the Miss America pageant (yay Virginia!) and ate dinner. I had a smart ones ravioli for 5pts, a diet sunkist 0pts, sweet potato w/ light butter and cinimon 3pts

After dinner, we watched some more TV and I had some pretzels and a newcastle for 5pts.

Matt gave me a back masage and I fell asleep right there on the couch. Finally, he ushered me to an early bed because it was clear I was in no shape to hang out late. I was so grateful for the extra Zs.

Day 19: 1/29/2010

 One of my best friends, Allee, came in town from D.C. to visit this weekend so I had some major cleaning to get done before she arrived. Friday, I drove Matt to work in the morning and missed having breakfast.

I ran a few insurance and car related errands- again, cleaned the house, and had Jamie and Chris over for lunch. I had 2 cups of Sausage Artichoke Soup for 5pts and 1/2 piece of oat nut bread for 1pt with a diet sunkist (I'm officially in love) for 0pts. Unfortunately, I can't find the picture of this!!

So after lunch, Jamie and I went shopping for some cheap new jeans. Mine were getting a little saggy- Matt said I looked like I was wearing a parachute. No offense taken at all, right? :) We ended up each getting jeans and the same jacket at Old Navy. Love me some sister time. Dropped Jamie off at the law library and rushed back to the apt to meet Allee. 

The nice thing about having Allee in town is that there's not an excuse to skip working out because you have company. Last time she was in town, we didn't work out before going out at night so at 1 am we did a workout together just to get it in! Needless to say- we went to the gym first thing. I did week 2 of my C25K workout for +4 activity points- I'm on the line between 4 and 5 now.

We hung out at the apt for a while and I had chicken teriaki Smart Ones for 4pts with 14 baked tortilla chips for 2pts and fresh salsa for 0pts. Delish.
After dinner, we went to the Box to hang out for a while. I had 2 oz gin and tonic for 2pts with diet tonic water and limes. Then I had 2 Newcastles for 6pts. It was nice to see Merideth, Mike, and Malory.


Well after that night, the taco bell run was inevitable. I got 2 soft tacos for 4pts each totaling 8pts. ugh, but overall a good night.

Day 18: 1/29/2010

Uhg- classes. Tuesdays and Thursdays are the only days I have class during the week and the schedule is horrible- I have class at 9:30 and then again at 2. At least today I got some entertainment in between.

I had a smart ones english muffin for 4pts for breakfast and headed to class.
After class, I went to lab and organized my desk for a little while and then ran to a meeting at 11:45 for TAing. Unfortunately, I didn't get all the help I needed, but I did get a good start on working with Collab. After my meeting, I picknicked my lunch with Cait. We split a salad with romaine, red bell peppers, feta, sunflower seeds, ff itialian dressing for 2pts each, and we split a cup of grapes, a cup of strawberries, and 11 pretzels for 2pts, and had a diet sunkist. So lunch totaling 4pts. but it was so yummy.

After lunch, I got a little more work done with collab, and went to my class. I went home after class with CJ and caught up a little. Always good to see her- such an awesome friend. I went back and picked up Matt at work and we ate dinner at the Brick Oven for the first time. I had 1 slice of bbq chicken pizza and one of feta and shrimp for 7 pts each so 14pts total.

I went to bed early at 10 and it was soooo nice to get a lot of sleep.

Day 17: 1/28/2010

Today feels like it has lasted forever. So much for cleaning the house and running as my only responsibilities! I woke up early this morning because I had to drive Matt to work- the one car thing is going to get old really fast. I made him waffles while he was in the shower to surprise him!

He was really happy and glad that I wasn't still in bed when he got out of the shower like usual. I had a Smart Ones breakfast sandwich for 4pts while driving him to work.

When I got home I had around a million and one things to do. First, I called the insurance company to report the wreck from last night. Then I called and filed a claim with the man's insurance company- geico was soooo awesome. They worked everything out within an hour! I dropped Matt's car off at the repair shop, which was pretty hilarious considering the driver's side door won't open so I have to climb in through the passenger side. They got me set up with a rental car for a couple of days- second rental car in a week! Wow- unlucky. I'm driving a Hyundai Sonata.

Geico was so nice that I got an insurance quote from them. We think we're going to switch! So much cheaper than liberty mutual for the same coverage. Just say a prayer that Matt's car isn't totaled. We can't afford to replace two cars right now.

So after getting all of that sorted out, I had to go to the DMV and title my old car in virginia for insurance purposes. Its been over a month since the wreck and its still not settled! Liberty Mutual claims department is TERRIBLE! Then I spent an hour on the phone with them trying to figure out where to mail it, dropped it by UPS and FINALLY headed home. I was starving. I had a Smart Ones fettuchini with broccli for 4pts and a cup of grapes for 1pt.

While eating lunch, Bear and I watched half of the sweetest thing before I started doing some work on the class I TA. I had a meeting with the professor and then picked Matt up from work. We ran by Staples to get school supplies (we're running late on everything because of the report), and I got home just in time to go to the 6:00 WW meeting. I was so excited and a little nervous because we drank a lot this week. On the way out the door, I realized I had left ALL of my WW stuff at my office so negative on that line. I snacked on a WW ice cream sandwich for 2pts.

After that, I caught up on some blogs and made my  Sausage Artichoke Heart Soup to use for the week. Jamie, Chris, Matt and I planned to go out to dinner to catch up, but Jamie got sick, so it ended up just being Chris, Matt, and I. (Hope you feel better, James; we missed you.) We went to Ragazzi's and I had a little salad with 3 croutons, and their house dressing- I am guessing 4pts to accommodate for the dressing and croutons.
Then I had a breadstick and a dinner portion of meat tortellini with alfredo sauce. I am estimating 1/3 cup alfredo sauce for 6pts, and a cup and a half of meat tortellini for 8pts, and a small breadstick for 2pts. Dinner was a lot of fun to catch up, but not really worth the points. I need to get a lot of working out in on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I think missing the meeting on Monday and again tonight really influenced my ability to keep from using my weekly points.  No excuses- just gotta keep going and keep moving. (Below- that's a plate not a bowl btw)

After dinner, I came home and made a salad for lunch tomorrow and packed some fruit for snacks. Its really late and I'm going to be tired tomorrow, I can already tell.

Sausage Artichoke Soup

Sausage Artichoke Soup Recipe:

This is such a great soup, super easy to make, and two cups is only 5pts! Its a great winter soup, and ciabatta bread goes perfectly with it.

What you need:

 1 lb. Sausage (I used regular this time, but next time I am going to try out spicy)
2 14 oz. cans Artichoke Hearts
3 14 oz. cans Diced Itallian Tomatoes
2 tsp Minced Garlic
3/4 tsp Oregano
3/4 tsp Basil
3/4 tsp Italian Seasoning
6 cups Water

Brown and crumble sausage in large skillet.

Drain off excess fat. (I did not subtract points for this.)

Chop artichoke hearts. I like my soup chunky so I didn't chop them a lot.

 Add sausage and artichoke hearts to a large pot.

Add all of the rest of the ingredients.

Stir and bring to a boil.

Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer on medium for 20-30 minutes.

And then you're done!!

Day 16: 1/27/2010

Great day to follow up the best day ever- I am still basking in the glory of having so little to do this early in the semester.

I woke up and had a quaker chewy bar for breakfast for 2pts on the way out the door to school.

I got to work a little early today before realizing- i didnt have anything to do today!! So I sat around for 45 mins until my 1st class started at 9:30- computational fluid dynamics. We did some baby programming and overall it went well. After that, I went home to let bear out and we took a dog nap on the couch together. No, not a cat nap, although they are the same length. Cat naps are based on convenience, laziness, and warm sunny places. Dog naps on the other hand are all about the company and snuggling- they are my fav.

So after bear's and my short nap, I went to eat lunch with Christina at Tara Thai. It was sooo necessary. I hadn't seen CJ in over a week! So nice to catch up. I ate half of my Pad Thai for 10pts. The mung beans were so crisp!

After than I went to my second class of the day- vibrations. It was all review so I didn't pay much attention. After that class, I had a meeting for the statistics class I TA. It went really well, and I am all geared up to be the best TA ever. So excited about helping people learn stats. Its one of my fav subjects. Matt and I headed home around 4 and split the rest of my pad thai for 5pts. Delish.

After kicking back a while, I went to Cait's apartment to study and watch some Jeapordy- love love LOVE girl time. Can never get enough. :) I had a low fat string cheese for 1pt at her apartment and 2 pieces of broccli for 0pts.

SO- to preface- I wrote all that jazz about great day up through the string cheese earlier...and now- still a good day, but not great. I GOT HIT ON THE WAY HOME FROM CAIT'S APT FOR THE 2ND TIME IN A MONTH!!! What are the odds? I guess the law of averages had something to say about my two awesome days in a row! Fortunately, I'm fine...and Matt's car isn't hurt as badly as mine was so hopefully it won't be totaled. Pictures tomorrow. The old man who hit me is quite possibly the nicest man on the planet. Like wow- it sucks that that's how I had to meet him, but I was glad to be with a nice person. We sat at Arby's and talked while waiting for the police. He bought me a soda (diet 0pts), and was facinated that my last name was Bauer- his favorite TV show is 24. Anyway- sweet old man, but I'm not sure if he should have been driving at night. If I hadn't had suuuuch a great 2 days, I would probably be totally pissed now because umm neither Matt nor I have a car now!

Well, that's all for tonight. I was going to make sausage artichoke soup and post the recipe online, but it looks like that's going to wait until tomorrow! 3rd WW meeting tomorrow and a weigh in. Not looking forward to this one after the crazy weekend.

Day 15: 1/26/2010

Best day EVER!!

So- we finished the report!! Its 70 pages or something ridiculous, but its done- thank God. So I did the last edit from 6:45-11 on Monday morning. I had a Smart Ones Teriaki chicken and veggies for 4pts and some water and 11 pretzels for 2pts

Then, Matt and I decided we needed to catch up on ALL of the errands we had been putting off for the past 3 weeks. We picked up his contacts, did laundry, cleaned the house, gave Bear a bath and cut his toenails, got a notary to sign some insurance stuff, payed bills, payed the puppy deposit, payed rent, walked Bear, and went  shopping for a new bed. Such a good day. It felt so nice to be with Matt and not working! After the hustle and bustle, we had a cup of taco soup to tide us over for 3pts and a quaker chewy bar for 2pts.

The taco soup is all gone now so I think later tonight I'm going to make artichoke sausage soup- so get ready for that to come! We chilled at the apartment for a little while and basked in the glory of not having ANYTHING to do. It was so so nice.

Later that night, we celebrated the end of the project with some friends. We went to Mellow Mushroom for beer and pizza- a personal fav. I had 2 slices of philosophers pie 8pts and 3 light beers for 6pts. We went to another bar after that and I had a soco and lime shot 2pts, a john daily 4pts, and a newcastle 3pts. After that we went over to a friend's house for a bit and played some beer pong- another 6pts. Ant then came the munchies of 2 ciabatta rolls for 4pts. Overall- a really really fun night and I was so happy to see everyone. It was a great day. But now- its time to buckle down and get back on my workout and eating schedule!
