Week 19: Sunday Fun-Day

Sunday, I woke up to the most beautiful day on the planet! It was great outside. It was a perfect day to end my week of break time from school before I get back in to writing my thesis! I made Matt french toast for breakfast and I opted for the lower cal laughing cow cheese and toast 2pts. Equally as good. I was trying to get some carbs into breakfast so I could go for my C25K W6D2 run...

Which I did after letting my food settle while watching Mama Mia! The run was awful. The first half I was super in to it. I ran at a faster pace than normal for 11 minutes- I even added time onto the required interval. The second half- not so much. I felt like I couldn't get my form or stride right for the first 2 minutes! It sucked- royally. Fortunately hubby came to the rescue (he was lifting weights) and finished the run with me and it was better. 

Thennnn, I asked Matt to help me with free weights. I want to tone my chest- I've lost some weight in the ladies (thank, God) so that connective tissue needs a reboot. :) I used baby weights and am SUUUUPER sore today (Monday). I knew it was going to be bad because I was sore after the 1st set. I didn't snap a picture while I was running- oops. But photographic proof I was at the gym. +4 activity pts.

After the workout, I went swimming for a while. I treaded water for 30 minutes +1 activity pt, and got my tan on. For lunch, we made sammiches. I had turkey on flat-bread with mustard and cheese 5pts and sunchips 3pts.

After lunch, we played with the oogies (what I call the puppies) for a while and then went to see Iron Man 2. It was pretty good. Not as good as the first, but I enjoyed it. We came back home and ran around w/ the doggies a little longer before heading to a cook out at Mary, Dee, and Becky's. I'm going to miss those chicas when they leave. We stayed there chatting and enjoying the heat on the porch pretty late. I had a burger and grilled veggies for dinner for 8pts. 2 Beers and a glass of wine 6pts, and 2 small slices of water mellon 0pts. When we got home I had a little peanut butter 2pts.

Week 19: Saturday

"If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."

Losing weight, or making any lifestyle change requires planning and forethought. You don't wake up one day and think- I'm going to run in the Spartathalon (153 Mile race between Athens and Sparta), it takes years of planning and training according to plan. Fortunately, weight loss efforts don't generally take years to complete, but it can seem like reaching your weight loss goals is just as unattainable as running 153 miles in 24 hours. I know I felt like that a year ago. I didn't know what to do or how to make a plan that I could stick to.

That's why its so important to make small goals which are in sight and also to have long term goals which give you something to strive for. For example- I made a New Year's resolution to loose 50 lbs this year. It is written on my white board along with other resolutions (not to cut my hair short and to get my master's degree) to remind me. 50 lbs seems like a ton, but in a year- that sounded doable. On the right side of my blog, I have smaller mile stones to get to. Right now, its to get below 170. Reaching the short term goals keeps me going. I've lost over 25 lbs from following the simple steps of setting a small goal, making a small plan, and celebrating that achievement. I'm over 1/2 way to my final goal, and it seems like it hasn't taken any work at all!

A good way to start your planning is to educate yourself on where you stand in relation to where you want to be. Do a little research. www.caloriecount.com or www.sparkpeople.com are both good (and free) places to give you a start. You can achieve your fitness goals this summer and there's always more time no matter your age. Being "too old" or "born that way" can be overcome with a little effort. Good luck this summer getting to where you want to be! And enjoy the weather!

Now for my day: It was a pretty relaxing Saturday. We woke up and took the puppies for a walk. I had a boiled egg for breakfast for 2pts. I nearly choked on it so I didn't eat the second one. Coughing up boiled egg yolk turned me off from eggs for a while.

Matt had to go to work, but I stayed home and did laundry- my least favorite chore. When he got home, we took the puppies to the playground. Matt and I swang on the swing-set (+1 activity pt for this and the walk) while they ran around like crazy people. When we got home, I had Santa Fe Style Chicken Salad for lunch for 5pts.

After lunch, Matt called comcast asking for a better deal and he got us all of the premium channels and faster internet for less than we were paying!! He's magical. So I watched Angels and Demons On Demand- it was terrible. Awful, awful movie.  After the movie, I had Organic Veggie Barley Soup 2pts and 2 fingers worth of reduced fat peanut butter 4pts


We did some editing on Matt's abstract for a conference next year and then went SHOPPING! We hit up Old Nave because Matt was in severe need of some clothes. We stopped by Arch's on the way home and had Fro-Yo. I got 3.5 oz of Wow-Cow Peanut Butter for 1pt.
 
I went to the grocery to pick up a couple of things and now am back home chillin on the couch. I tried out a handfull of baked Cheetos to see if they were any good. They're alright- deff not as good as normal. 1pt.

Week 19: Friday

Great day today! I spent most of it at work, but it was good because I was busy all day! We booked our first client today! I ate a smart ones sandwich for breakfast for 4pts and then walked to work for +2 activity pts!
Favorite part of my desk at work by far- LAVA LAMP! One of the benefits of working with kids- we get cool shit to play with.
I had goat cheese and asparagus pasta for lunch for 7pts and scarfed it down while the phone wasn't ringing.

By the time I got off work, it was pouring down rain for one of the first summer thunderstorms. I couldn't get a hold of Matt so I decided to walk home anyway. I was completely soaked by the time I got home! and I still got my +2 activity pts for the walk.

I took a shower and had a snack of 5 pretzel sticks and a diet dr. pepper for 2pts

Matt and I spent the rest of the night watching Harry Potter and playing with the puppies! We snacked instead of eating a real dinner. I had some cheese 2pts and some organic baked fries 4pts.

Week 19: Thursday

I worked all day again so there's not much to talk about. I had a Slimfast for breakfast for 4pts.

Work was mostly uneventful, but busy. I ate my lunch while working. PB&J for 4pts with pretzels 2pts and fruit which I didn't eat.

After work, Matt and I decided to get out of the house and go to dinner. St. Maarten's does a burger special on Thursdays so we went to check that out. I had 1/2 a small burger and fries 14pts.

After dinner, we watched the flip cup tournament at McGrady's Irish pub. A friend of ours, Brad, was subbing for one of the teams.

And after that...we went to watch Kareoke at Baja and got a drink there. I love watching Kareoke! I'm not sure how many points the margarita was, but it was pretty big, and I had a beer at dinner so I'm guessing 15pts for drinks.

Week 18: Wednessday (Weigh In)

Hey everyone! Today was a great day...I spent most of it getting a sunburn at the pool...and ps- sunburns before eyebrow waxing- definitely not recommended.

Matt and I got up before all of our house guests to free up the shower and take the puppies out. I dropped Jamie off to pick up her car for their big move while waiting for everyone to get dressed. We went to Bodos for breakfast! Again..I had a sausage light egg and cheese bagel for 10pts.

After getting back home, I went to weigh in at Weight Watchers since I missed the Monday meeting due to work. I am down 1.4 lbs!! Yay! That's with family in town and everything! I was happy with it. Now I am at 172.4 and I don't have anything crazy going on for a few weeks so I should be able to get the numbers down a little faster. I am going to try really hard to anyway! Go go gadget self-control! 

Since we had a late breakfast, I went to the pool and skipped lunch since I was still full. I packed a snack, but didn't eat it until later. I was so excited to enjoy the summer weather!! Its definitely my favorite season...maybe I am just programmed from my childhood summer vacations from school to associate summer with relaxation and outdoor activities, but I LOVE SUMMER! The weather, the color palate, the sandals, the toe nail polishes, and especially summer reading! My summer reading list is growing and I've been too excited to read the books to just read one at a time! I hopped in the pool for an easy 30 minute workout of treading water +2 activity pts!

Week 19: Tuesday

I was at work all day today, so not much to share about. I had a smart ones sandwich for breakfast 4pts.

I managed to find a few minutes a work today to eat the lunch I packed for Monday!! I wasn't nearly as busy, but I did get a lot done. We had our first client today! It was opening day! I had a smart ones pasta..something for lunch 6pts.

I walked home from work for +2 activity points! It was pleasant. When I got home, I watched last week's episode of the biggest loser and then watched the season finale. Michael won! Wow- over 250 lbs in half a year. Amazing. Some of the contestants looked phenomenal. Others, I felt bad for since they looked so close to their starting weights. Weight loss is hard..especially on national tv. I had leftovers for dinner while watching for 7pts. I had goat cheese asparagus pasta and some Broccoli.


After checking out of life for my show for about 2 hrs Matt and I started cleaning. Jes and Johnny were driving through Cville yesterday with 3 friends on their way to a wedding in Jersey and crashing at our place. We are puppy sitting little Baxter while they are there. He and Bear are already best buds.

When they got in town, we stayed up and hung out for a while. I used the rest of my daily points on wine while chatting. Super fun. Can't wait until they come back through!!

Week 19: Monday

Yesterday was sadly, the last day of my parents' brief visit. I was really sad they were going home because I don't get to see them often, but I've also been too busy to dwell on it much. We woke up early to eat breakfast together before they left. I had a chick-fil-a chicken sandwich for 10pts with a chicken mini 1pt. All for breakfast- wow.

My parents' were nice enough to drop me off at work on their way out of town. I worked for 9hrs and didn't even have time to stop and eat the lunch I packed!! I wasn't even scheduled to work Monday! So- I got a ton done, and was starving when I finished!! Unfortunately, I didn't get off work until after my WW meeting time so I'm going to have to make it up...Wed maybe? Its my only day off this week.

Matt and I went on a date to Sushi Love! It was awesome. I had a California Roll (minus 1 piece) 3pts and a Tiger Roll- mainly shrimp with eel sauce- (I had 4/6 pieces) 4pts and some edamame 1pt. I was stuffed and it was awesome!!! Sushi is one of the few things I can eat out and be completely full for low pts. Its probably because its pretty healthy, mainly smoked fish, a little rice vinegar, seaweed, and veggies...and because it takes forever to eat! (Matt's food is in the pictures too.)

After sushi love, we finished up the date with the season finale of Lost!! I actually enjoyed the season finale...it took me back to seasons 1 and 2. We went to bed around midnight because both of us were having early mornings- I had to open the next day.

Week 18: Weekend

Hello, bloggies! Its been a (busy) while since I've written- four days to be exact. I have been beyond busy. I'll give you a rundown from the top.

My parents came in town this weekend for Jamie and Chris's graduation so having company was kind of the theme. Friday, I cooked and cleaned all day long. It was a beautiful day outside, but I didn't get the pool time I was hoping for. I made 2 batches of goat cheese asparagus pasta in the morning for the graduation party I was throwing on Saturday night. I had some for lunch for 6pts.

After lunch, I headed to LearningRx to complete my training. It went quickly, but by the time it ended I had to get back home and keep cleaning. Look at all the plastic bags that were under our sink!! I organized them. :)

We didn't want to mess up the kitchen after cleaning it so we went to chick-fil-a for dinner. I had a nugget meal (not kids) for 15pts.

We continued cooking and cleaning until around midnight before calling it quits.

Saturday was just as busy. We woke up around 7:30 to go help Cait pack up her apartment. So sad- all of my amigas are leaving!! Matt and I grabbed breakfast on the way in for 6pts. I had a light egg ham and cheese on a wheat bagel.
After helping her, her parents were so nice and took everyone to Boylan for lunch. I had the cobb salad for 7pts and a few (4-5) of Matt's fries 2pts.


Shortly after, my parents got in town and we spent part of the afternoon chatting until they headed out with Jamie and Chris to graduation events and when Matt and I got to business getting dinner ready for 13 or so people in our tiny apt. We had steak, chicken, asparagus, garlic broccli, fresh breads, artichoke and lemon butter, pepporchini, summer sausage, grilled sweet corn, Cashew Balsalmic Salad, assorted fruits, and goat cheese asparagus pasta. I made a chocolate pudding cake and Nilakshi brought 2 pies. It was great. I don't know my points for the meal- I also had wine. No picture, I was too busy running around! There is a pic of the cake I made for James, Nila, and Chris though!!

The dinner was a lot of fun. I enjoyed hanging out w/ Jamie's friends and extended fam and the pie was delish.

I drove and dropped off the kiddies (Mom dad, chirs's mom and dad and sister, and ramjie and chris) at graduation. I got to drive the Schoen's suburban! It was huuuuge! I had a coffee at starbucks for 3pts while waiting (obviously didn't finish it).

We had pizza and beer for dinner- I know, I'm doing stellar at this dieting thing, right? I had 2 slices of greek pizza for 7pts and a beer 3pts. I had a small slice of pie later for 4pts.

Week 18: Thursday Work again Jiggidy Jog

So today, I don't have any pictures for you, unfortunately. I may have taken one at breakfast, but I was with people for lunch and dinner who I didn't really want to share my food picture-taking quirk or blog with yet.

I had a Smart Ones Breakfast Sandwich to start the day for 4pts and then headed to my first paid (non training) day at Learning Rx. I have the position of a trainer as well as the Director of First Impressions (DFI)...fancy title for secretary. So it was my first day working as the DFI. Overall it went well.

Our boss took Emily, the other DFI, and I out to lunch at a place within walking distance. I think Dargan is still worried I'm going to get carsick. Great- I get to be reminded of that every time we go somewhere now. FABULOUS. I had a grilled chicken wrap at lunch for 7pts and some chips 4pts.

When I got off work, I came home and immediately got ready for a bring-you-own-pizza-topping party at my advisor's house. I had about 3 mini slices of pizza 6pts and some chips 4pts, a small brownie 2pts, and a beer 2pts. Lots of points. When Matt and I got home, we did some cleaning and watched the season finale of Grey's Anatomy (or at least I did). It was super intense. Then, we went to bed a little early. Looong day, but tomorrow will probably be longer. I have SO much to do.

I'm going to try not to use weekly points at all tomorrow and do my best not to over the weekend too. The weekend will be hard b/c we're hosting dinner and drinks Sat for my sister and brother's graduation from law school and breakfast the next day. Wish me luck!

Week 18: Wednesday- Last Day of No Job!

This morning, I got up with Matt even though I didn't have to take him to work because I had some big plans today. I was going to Lynchburg with Cait to go to the J. Crew warehouse store! So the unfortunate part of the day- I ate more than my share of points..oops!

So I got up and had some bread and cheese for 3pts for breakfast.

After that, Bear and I went back to bed and did some reading about nutrition and running while waiting for Cait to come over. When she got here, 1st thing we went for a work out. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical. I usually do the interval program between 8 and 12 resistance and keep it 5.5 mph and up the whole time, well I was really struggling with this today. I was huffing it at 4.5!! I finally bit the bullet and downed the resistance to 7-10 and had a little better time, but it was still crazy hard for me! I did get +4 activity pts for it though.

Does anyone else ever experience difficult workouts with something that is usually second nature??


Either way, 30 minutes and 400 calories later, I was glad to be done. We showered up, grabbed some subs from bellmont 10pts and headed out.

We jammed to some oldies on the way down and I got us lost- I'm a terrible navigator for future reference...however if you are looking for an off-key back-ground singer, I'm your gal. The actual store was a little disapointing. I was envisioning a huge warehouse of super cheap items...not so much, but I did manage to find a pair of pants for $14 that are super comfy and can double as new work clothes. I've been trying not to buy anything until I'm done losing weight so that I don't waste $$ on things that will only fit for a while (I hope). I've already come down 2 sizes so here's hoping for more! 

After our minor bust at the clearance store, we got pedis!! It was awesome. They used parafin wax and everything. I now have shockingly pink toes- my favorite summer color, although Cait is worried that I may blind people and Matt said he needed sunglasses. Whatever people- my toes tell me every day is a happy day when they are this color. :) On a side note- I had a guy giving me a pedi. I used to think this was weird and I know a lot of girls still do...but he spent a TON of time on the massage part and he was stronger than women so it was waaay better. I'm a convert...what's your take- pedies from guys a no or a go?

When we got back to Cville- I sat on the couch and had 1 triscuit (Bear talked me out of the other two in the pic) and 1 cup of chex mix 4pts.

I convinced Matt it was a sushi night and so we went to sushi-love only to find its closed on Weds. Super disappointing. We went to stix and had just as good of a time sitting outside and chatting for 1/2 the price...and 10pts I didn't eat the pita pictured.

After dinner, we went to B&N to complete our wonderful date. I got 2 books and read the intros to both tonight. I got Bitter is the New Black and The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters. The first, I've wanted to read for a while and is a NY Times best seller, the second was an impulse buy which I'm reserving judgment on. We had some (5-6) famous amos cookies for a snack for 4pts later.

It was a great day overall today and I am heading to bed early because my 4 days of unemployment officially end tomorrow at 9am. Wish me luck!!
